IEI provides the procedures and experienced
personnel to implement Measurement Tailoring Workshops to identify
the important issues and select a tailored set of measures. IEI
performs one- or two-day, on-site visits to gather data and to
conduct non-intrusive interviews. The Workshop opening presentation
includes a formal entry presentation describing the purpose, scope,
and findings of each visit. Follow-on visits and tasks in the
Measurement Workshop process include:
-
a software issue identification session, with
recommendations focused on process and product measurement
implementation and analysis;
-
an initial issue-driven measurement training
course;
-
a formal exit presentation describing the results
of the visit with appropriate recommendations, including:
-
procedures to assist project managers and their
staff in assessing the level of maturity of their software
products;
-
identification of issues and risks in meeting
performance and usage expectations;
-
procedures to implement a viable software
measurement process;
-
procedures to use the software measures for
executive decisions at major milestone reviews and to manage the
day-to-day decisions;
-
an assessment of the degree to which shortfalls
in the development process migrate to the product;
-
procedures to assess continuous process
improvement efforts.
IEI provides a report that presents the results of
each Measurement Workshop visit. This Measurement Workshop Report
evaluates the software products in relation to known, inherent
software and information technology (IT) process risks that are
identified from risk analysis and measurement results. The report
identifies technical issues, areas of concern, product deficiencies,
and inherent shortfalls in overall IT product maturity. The final
Measurement Workshop Report also addresses two related subtasks:
-
characterization of the developer’s software
measurement process and identification of software process and IT
management issues;
-
characterization of the developer’s software IT
products.
